NODEMCUV2 vs V3

How do you connect the wires from GND and 5V to a NODEMCU V2?
All I can find are instructions for the NODEMCU V3.

To connect the SDS011 to a NodeMCU v2 please use the pins VIN and GND directly beside the USB connector.

These pins also exist at NodeMCU v3, but a diode is forcing the pin VIN to be input only. So we can’t get the 5V for the SDS011 there.
