Firmware OTA from web page

Hi all,
I need to re-flash my sensor, is unable to connect to wi-fi (wi-fi 5) and harvesting on FAQ the only solution possible is to re-flash the sensor.
My sensor has worked for (at least) one year since 7/1/24 00:30 after this moment the sensor is became offline.
Now I can connect to it when is in router mode but is unable to re join my wi-fi network.
Is possible to flash using web connection? (the sensor is on my roof!)
Thank you.

I would be surprised if the software is causing this kind of issue. To which faq are you referring?

Regarding your question, likely you need a physical connection to flash the node-mcu again.

Hi @v6tunnler
thank you for your answer.
I’m also surprised about this problem.
The sensor has worked for a lot of time, but suddenly has stopped working. I’ve cut off the power and the sensor has re started in access point mode.
After it I had tried, finding in the list my SSID, to insert the wi-fi password. This was unsuccessfully, I’ve made a lot of try.
Searching for “wi-fi problem” or “unable to connect” I’ve found only that the way to solve was to flash again the firmware.
Let me know if you have any idea before that I need to go on my roof!

Best regards.

If possible, try to get the router and the sensor in a closer range.

Hi,
It would be important to read the USB log to know exactly what happens.
Like @air-ais says I think it has to do with the range of the router.

Thank you,
BTW the sensor has worked for more than one year.
Has suddenly stopped working, now is online without any explication.
Boh!

Thank you,
I know, but the sensor is on my roof!

I am a bit curious now, do you have a photo?

Hi @v6tunnler
The sensor is under a solar panel (ACS).

Thanks^^, Well done :+1:

No problem. The same thing is happening to me from time to time.

I get the following stats from that sensor:

WiFi signal strength -80 dBm
WiFi signal quality 40 %

As you can see it’s a bit weak, but it’s not very convenient to rearrange things, and it’s not something that happens regularly.

Hi @air-ais I know that sometimes the sensor appear offline, btw is the first time that the sensor is offline for more days!
Thank you for your help!

You are welcome! Good to know it’s working alright again.

40 % is still quite OK.

1. Verify Wi-Fi Network and Sensor Compatibility:

  • Check Wi-Fi Standard: Ensure your Wi-Fi network is compatible with the sensor (Wi-Fi 5). Older standards might cause issues.
  • Router Settings: Verify that your router’s settings haven’t changed, affecting the sensor’s connectivity.
  • Network Interference: Check for any potential interference sources near the sensor (microwave ovens, cordless phones, etc.).
  • Sensor Firmware Version: Check if there’s a firmware update available that might resolve the issue.

2. Attempt Re-flashing Without Physical Access:

While re-flashing typically requires physical access, there might be alternative methods:

  • Remote Access: If the sensor has remote management capabilities (e.g., through a mobile app or web interface), explore options to initiate a firmware update remotely.
  • Over-the-Air (OTA) Updates: Some sensors support OTA updates, allowing firmware updates without physical access. Check the sensor’s documentation.
  • Cloud-Based Management: If the sensor is part of a cloud-based system, there might be options to re-flash it through the cloud platform.

3. Consider Temporary Workarounds:

If re-flashing isn’t feasible immediately, consider these temporary solutions:

  • Troubleshoot Wi-Fi Connection: Try different Wi-Fi channels or temporarily move the sensor closer to the router.
  • Manual Data Collection: If possible, manually collect data from the sensor (e.g., by connecting directly to it) until the issue is resolved.
  • Contact Support: Reach out to the sensor manufacturer’s support for guidance.

4. Plan for Physical Access:

If remote solutions fail, you’ll need to access the sensor physically:

  • Safety First: Ensure proper safety measures when accessing the roof.
  • Backup Data: If possible, back up the sensor’s data before re-flashing.
  • Detailed Instructions: Follow the manufacturer’s instructions carefully for the re-flashing process.

Thank you.
The problem was solved after some reboot.
