Add sensors to DWD (and other) stations to calibrate weather data

Dear all,

I am currently looking into the public data provided by the German weather service (DWD): https://opendata.dwd.de/climate_environment/CDC/, see also: https://cdc.dwd.de/portal/. They operate many weather stations in Germany (map.

Apart from the information about particulate matter, the weather data provided by the sensor community setup is very, very interesting for me since it essentially replaces many of the functions of a more fancy (and expensive) weather station.

I think it would be good to start an initiative to add one of “our” sensors directly or in very close vicinity to these weather stations (and similar ones operated by public entities outside of Germany). Like that we would gain the ability to calibrate our sensors against the already well calibrated ones. The DWD could also use our data to extend their coverage since they can learn about the reliability of our sensors from the calibration process.

Am I missing something here? What do you think?

Cheers
Niklas

It is what this map was programmed for:

Look at the explanation in the menu.

i wish they would answer our emails…

The Group CT6 at FAIRMODE is exactly investigating this:
